Some may
consider it sour grapes, but it is a fact. The schedule maker does the HCC no
favors in the state track tournament. While the MIC, a league no more spread
out than the HCC feeds into four different regionals, all ten HCC schools feed
into one regional. That is the meat grinder at West Lafayette. Therefore, the
HCC teams tend to beat each other up and reduce the number of athletes that
qualify to the next level. It happened again Tuesday evening. Despite the
handicap, the conference had a strong showing.
As they did
in the sectional, the Hamilton Southeastern Royals finished second to Carmel in
the competition. They amassed 77 points on the evening. Brownsburg was right
behind in third with 59 and Avon finished fourth with 36. 33 points were enough
to farner Harrison sixth place in the meet while Westfield was eighth with 30
markers. Fishers tied for ninth with 26 points while Noblesville scored 23,
good enough for 11th. Lafayette Jeff was 14th, Zionsville
17th, and McCutcheon 20th for the evening.
