FB: HCC action was furious in week one on the gridiron

While most
of the major schools in Indiana were warming up with non-conference foes Friday
night, HCC teams entered the fray of league action. One of the unique aspects
of Hoosier Crossroads football is that the entire schedule is comprised of
conference games. Here is a look at Friday’s action.

Much has
been made in the media of Zionsville’s move to 5A. We at Hoosier Authority are
not sure why. The Eagles have played a
5A schedule for years, ever since joining the HCC. They showed Friday
they are ready for the rigors by blasting Lafayette Jeff 41-0. It was the first
shutout suffered by the Bronchos in 14 seasons.

The
explosive offenses forgot to show up at Hamilton Southeastern. The contest
between the Royals and Avon was billed as an early showdown and was expected to
be a high scoring affair. It was anything but that. Hamilton Southeastern
prevailed in a defensive struggle 7-6. Westfield conquered Harrison in another
nail biting clash. The rapidly improving Shamrocks came away with a 14-13
victory.

The offensive
shootout took place in Noblesville. Fishers invaded the Millers’ home and came
away with a 38-29 win. Brownsburg rounded out the slate with a 19-8 victory
over McCutcheon.

The results
from opening night mean that only one game this coming Friday will be between
two teams who won in week one. That will take place when Hamilton Southeastern
travels to corporation foe Fishers. The other key game on the docket will be in
Avon where the orioles try to bounce back against Westfield. A Shamrock win
would spell real trouble for Avon’s title hopes this time around.
